I create an adaptation for every one of the eight Moon phases.
Why? Because I love exploring how the timing of a spell can influence the way I approach it, and I want you to have options when you’re ready to cast.
You don’t have to wait for the next Full Moon to work on something you’re excited about. You don’t have to abandon an intention because the Moon is in a phase that doesn’t match the spell you originally had in mind. And you don’t have to squeeze every spell into the same traditional timing.
Instead, I give you eight ways to approach the same intention.
The Moon moves through eight commonly recognized phases, and each offers a different way to think about the work you’re doing.
Here’s how I approach them when adapting a spell.
The New Moon is a lovely time to focus on beginnings, fresh intentions, and deciding what you want to invite into your life.
For a prosperity spell, for example, this might mean setting an intention to welcome new financial opportunities. For a self-confidence spell, it could be about beginning to see yourself differently.
It’s the starting point: identifying what you want to work toward.
As the Moon begins to grow, I like to think about taking the first steps toward an intention.
This phase can suit spells focused on attracting opportunities, developing confidence, encouraging growth, or supporting something that’s just getting started.
If I’m working toward a business goal, this is a good opportunity to focus on opening doors and building momentum.
The First Quarter Moon is associated with action, challenges, and decisions.
This is where I might adapt a spell to focus on overcoming obstacles, finding the courage to act, or strengthening my determination.
Sometimes setting an intention is the easy part. Actually doing something about it is where the work begins.
The Waxing Gibbous phase comes just before the Full Moon, making it a useful point in the cycle to focus on refinement, preparation, and strengthening an intention.
I might use this adaptation when I want to improve something already underway, build confidence in a goal, or give extra attention to the details before moving forward.
It’s an opportunity to look at what I’m doing and consider what could use a little more attention.
The Full Moon is often associated with culmination, illumination, celebration, and working with what has come to fruition.
Depending on the intention, I might adapt a spell to focus on amplifying confidence, celebrating progress, strengthening an existing intention, or bringing something into clearer view.
It’s also a wonderful time to reflect on what has changed since I first began working toward a goal.
After the Full Moon, the lunar cycle begins to wane.
I like to use this part of the cycle as an opportunity to reflect, appreciate what’s working, and consider what I’ve learned.
A spell adapted for this phase might focus on gratitude, acknowledging progress, or integrating the lessons that have come from an experience.
Not every part of spellcraft needs to be about getting something new. Sometimes it’s worth appreciating what is already here.
The Last Quarter Moon is often connected with letting go, reassessing, and making changes.
This can be a fitting time for spells focused on releasing unhelpful patterns, clearing away obstacles, or deciding what no longer belongs in your life.
For example, a spell originally focused on attracting prosperity might be adapted to address habits or beliefs that are getting in the way of your financial goals.
The intention is still connected to prosperity, but the approach changes.
The Waning Crescent is the final phase before the New Moon begins another cycle.
I often associate this phase with rest, quiet reflection, and clearing space for what’s next.
A spell adapted for this phase might focus on releasing lingering stress, finding peace, or letting go of what you’re ready to leave behind.
It’s a chance to finish one cycle before beginning another.
The point isn’t that every spell must be cast during a particular Moon phase or that a spell can’t work outside its traditional timing.
I want to give you choices.
Let’s say you want to cast a spell for confidence. You might choose the New Moon adaptation because you’re beginning a new chapter. You might choose the First Quarter version because you’re facing a challenge and want to take action. Or you might choose the Waning Crescent adaptation because you’re ready to release an old belief about yourself.
The underlying intention is confidence, but the way you approach it can change depending on what you’re experiencing and what you want to focus on.
That’s what I love about creating these adaptations. They give you room to work with the lunar cycle without having to put your own goals on hold.
And if you enjoy experimenting with your spells, you can try different versions over time and record your experiences. You might discover that one approach resonates with you more than another, or that you prefer different adaptations for different intentions.
That’s part of learning your own craft.
I want my spells to be useful when you actually need them.
If you’re working through a difficult situation today, I don’t want you to feel that you have to wait two weeks before you can do anything. If you’re excited about a new opportunity, I want you to have a way to explore that intention now.
Having eight adaptations gives you a starting point for choosing an approach that suits both the lunar phase and your current circumstances.
You can still consider other timing correspondences, such as the day of the week, planetary associations, or ingredients that suit your intention. But you don’t have to turn every spell into a complicated calculation before you can get started.
Choose the adaptation that makes sense to you, gather what you need, and enjoy the process.
I approach witchcraft as something I can learn through experience. I read, research, craft spells, cast them, and pay attention to what happens. Sometimes I try a different approach next time. Sometimes I keep working with something I enjoy.
My spells reflect that attitude.
Rather than giving you one rigid set of instructions, I give you eight adaptations to explore. You can choose the one that fits your intention, experiment with different phases, and develop your own understanding of how you like to work with the Moon.
Every spell from The Spellbook Studio includes an adaptation for all eight Moon phases, so you have options whenever you’re ready to cast.
Your craft is your own. I’m here to give you more ways to explore it.
